Introduction

What is Import Export Code (IEC)?

IEC registration is required by a person for exporting or importing goods. It is a 10 digit code which is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

All Entities which are engaged in Import and Export of goods requires Import Export Code. IE code has lifetime validity. Importers are not allowed to proceed without this code and exporters can’t take advantage of exports from DGFT, customs, Export Promotion Council, in the absence of IEC.

The IEC must be quoted by importers while clearing customs. Also, banks require the importers IEC while sending money abroad. For exporters, IEC must be quoted while sending shipments. and banks require the exporters IEC while receiving money from abroad.

  PAN of the Applicant.

  Proof of Business Registration or Certificate of Incorporation .

  Passport Size Photo, Identity and Address Proof of the Promoters/Partners.

  Address Proof of Business .

  Authorization Letter/ Board Resolution .

  Cancelled cheque or Bank Statement (including details like Name, Address, IFSC code ).
